Question to the Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade:

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade, with reference to the Department’s press release entitled Joint Statement of 16th Meeting of the India–UK JETCO, published on 12 October 2026, what assessment has he made of the extent to which increased imports from India under the agreement have displaced any production by UK-based businesses.

The Department has not made such an assessment. This is because such analysis would not be proportionate or credible at such an early stage following an FTA’s entry-into-force. Instead, the Department’s monitoring activities track early-stage implementation and utilisation and is not designed to assess FTA impacts over the very short-term. Impacts of trade changes following an FTA’s entry into force are robustly assessed using specialist evaluation techniques over the medium- to longer-term as more data becomes available.
