Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment she has made of whether existing enforcement powers are sufficient to deal with individuals who deliberately start wildfires.
Deliberately or recklessly starting a wildfire may be prosecuted as arson under the Criminal Damage Act 1971. Broader prevention of wildfires is a matter for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
The investigation of alleged offences is an operational matter for the police; and prosecution decisions are a matter for the Crown Prosecution Service.
