Question to the Home Office:
To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, what assessment she has made of the effectiveness of deterring the deliberate starting of wildfires.
Deliberately or recklessly starting a wildfire may be prosecuted as arson under the Criminal Damage Act 1971. Broader prevention of wildfires is a matter for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
The investigation of alleged offences is an operational matter for the police; and prosecution decisions are a matter for the Crown Prosecution Service.
