Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what estimate she has made of the annual cost to the NHS of preventable foodborne illness.
Analysis by the Food Standards Agency estimates that foodborne disease causes approximately 2.4 million illnesses and 16,300 hospitalisations in the United Kingdom each year. The resulting annual cost to the National Health Service is estimated at £79.2 million, at 2025 prices.
