Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:
To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment he has made of the adequacy of the training and professional development required of internationally recruited dentists who carry out NHS work.
The General Dental Council (GDC) holds the statutory responsibility for regulating dentistry, including setting standards that must be met by all dentists wishing to be added to the United Kingdom dental register. The GDC’s legislation requires overseas applicants to undertake an exam for the purposes of confirming they have the requisite skills and knowledge to practise dentistry in the UK.
