Urgent review of the current Functional Skills assessments for apprenticeships

There has been a significant drop in apprenticeship success rates. We believe this decline is not due to lack of effort or ability on behalf of our learners but rather what we see as an unfit requirement - passing functional skills tests.

I think this requirement is disadvantaging learners and hindering their progress. Functional Skills requirements are currently mandatory for completing apprenticeships, but we believe they do not adequately serve their intended purpose. Instead of fostering growth and development in our learners, they have become a barrier to success as they don't reflect the diverse range of skills needed in today's workforce. Nor do they account for different learning styles and abilities. They should be replaced by more inclusive learning assessments.
