Scottish Parliament Written Question
S6W-24947
Monday 19th February 2024

Asked by: Duncan-Glancy, Pam (Scottish Labour - Glasgow)

Question

To ask the Scottish Government which stakeholders it engaged with regarding Education Scotland's Inclusion, Wellbeing and Equalities Professional Learning framework.

Answered by Gilruth, Jenny - Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills

I am advised that Education Scotland’s draft Professional Learning Framework has been an iterative process, developed as a result of formal and informal feedback from a wide range of practitioners and other users who have participated in Education Scotland’s professional learning. This includes direct work with Local Authorities, schools, teachers, Senior Managers in schools, and other stakeholders. Evaluations from these activities and discussions with users over a two-to-three-year period, has shaped our current offer.

Some of the stakeholders involved in shaping the concept and content of the draft Framework are:

  • ES Inclusion Link officers National Network. Almost all 32 local authority officers attended a presentation of the Professional Learning Framework and provided feedback.
  • ASLO (Additional Support for Learning Link Officer) National Network, which been involved in commenting over the development phase of the framework. Almost all authorities are represented on this Network.
  • Social Emotional and Behavioural Needs National Network representing 31 Education Authorities.
  • Complex Needs National Network. 32 Local Authority representatives working with the most challenging children and young people, have provided feedback.
  • Evidence from recent Collaborative Improvement Activity with Renfrewshire, North Lanarkshire, and Scottish Borders, helped to identify gaps in resources, and where a refresh of resources and/or focus was required in current materials.
  • Cheryl Burnet National Parent Council.
  • National Network comprising Children’s Parliament, Young Scott, UNICEF, Children in Scotland all of whom are part of a and helped us to identify strengths and gaps in resources.
  • SG Programme boards in Inclusion, behaviour, anti-racism, gender, Hate Crime, and LGBTI.

Written Question
Mental Health Services: Children and Young People
Thursday 16th May 2024

Asked by: Nadia Whittome (Labour - Nottingham East)

Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what assessment she has made of the potential impact of transitioning from CAMHS to adult mental health services on the support provided to young people.

Answered by Maria Caulfield - Parliamentary Under Secretary of State (Department for Business and Trade) (Minister for Women)

Under the NHS Long Term Plan, local health systems have been tasked with delivering a comprehensive offer for zero to 25 year-olds to ensure young adults receive appropriate mental health support, regardless of their age or diagnostic profile.

Between the ages of 16 to 18 years old, young people are more susceptible to mental illness, undergoing physiological change and making important transitions in their lives. The structure of the National Health Service’s mental health services often creates gaps for young people undergoing the transition from children and young people’s mental health services to appropriate support, including adult mental health services. The new approach to young adult mental health services for people aged 18 to 25 years old will better support the transition to adulthood.

Written Question
Terrorism: Victims
Tuesday 23rd January 2024

Asked by: Priti Patel (Conservative - Witham)

Question to the Home Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, If he will introduce a National Day of Service and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism.

Answered by Tom Tugendhat - Minister of State (Home Office) (Security)

The Home Office has conducted an internal review into the support package provided to victims of terrorism.

The scope of the review covered how the government considers victims of terrorism, what gaps there are in the current support offer and whether communication of the support available is right.

The review recognises that memorialisation and recognition are an important factor in victims’ recovery and has considered how victims could be commemorated in the future.

We will seek to update on next steps in due course.
