Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of emerging forms of business financing for small and medium enterprises by institutions like PayPal and Amazon.

The UK is fortunate in having one of the most diverse finance markets in the world, enabling businesses to start up, invest and grow. The Government welcomes new business finance providers and products that make a positive contribution to a diverse, competitive and fair market. We are working to improve access to finance for small and mid-sized businesses through targeted interventions, the majority of which are delivered in partnership with the Government-owned British Business Bank.

Government continually monitors the operation of finance markets and the availability of finance to SMEs. A comprehensive analysis of business financing for small and medium enterprises is published annually by the British Business Bank and is available as attached.
