The UK’s aim and preference is to remain within the Galileo programme and to continue working with our European partners. However, in the event that the Galileo programme ceases to be an option, the Government is looking at other options outside of the programme to meet our security and strategic requirements.

As announced on 2 May, a taskforce of Government specialists and domestic industry will develop options for a British Global Navigation Satellite System that would have a similar range of commercial and security applications as the US GPS system.
