Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask His Majesty's Government what representations they have made to the government of Algeria concerning the continued closure of Protestant churches and obstacles to their legal registration; and whether they intend to raise those restrictions in future bilateral discussions on freedom of religion or belief.
The British Embassy in Algiers routinely raises Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB) with the Algerian authorities and remains in regular contact with minority religious groups. It is our firm opinion that no one should live in fear because of what they do or do not believe. We will continue to raise these issues, including the obstacles to the legal registration and operation of the Protestant Church of Algeria and its affiliated churches.
