Question to the Ministry of Defence:
To ask the Secretary of State for Defence, how many new Army recruits who joined the Army since January 2017 were (a) male and (b) female.
The table below shows the number of Army recruits from 1 January 2017 to 30 June 2017 broken down by gender:
| Regular | Regular |
|
| Officer | Other Rank | Reserve FR20 |
Male | 340 | 3,080 | 940 |
Female | 40 | 310 | 190 |
Notes
The figures are for Regular Army and FR20 Reserves and therefore exclude Gurkhas and Non-FR20 Reserve Populations. The FR20 population consists of Group A Army Reserves, some Sponsored Reserves and those personnel serving on Full Time Reserve Service (FTRS) contracts who were previously Army Reservists.
Rounding: Figures have been rounded to 10 to limit disclosure; numbers ending in ‘5’ have been rounded to the nearest multiple of 20 to prevent systematic bias. Totals and sub-totals have been rounded separately and so may not appear to be the sum of their parts.
