In 2016, 69.3% of children achieved a good level of development as defined by the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework. Of the 30.7% of children who did not achieve a good level of development in 2016, 1.5% (3089 children) attended a PVI setting. The data to determine the number and proportion of children attending private and voluntary settings only is not readily available, and could only be compiled at a disproportionate cost.

The Profile is an assessment based on a teacher’s observations of each child in their reception year, and is designed to ensure that parents and Year 1 teachers are informed about their learning and development attainment. The Profile is not intended to hold providers to account.
