Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what steps are being taken to improve access to mental health services for young offenders.

This question was answered on 1st November 2016

Young offenders are entitled to the same range and quality of health care treatments, including mental health care, as people in the community.

The Department is committed to improving mental health treatment for young people in contact with the youth justice system, including those who are vulnerable to self-harm and suicide attempts. NHS England is developing a specific £24 million programme to improve mental health provision for children and young people, under 18 years old, in contact with the justice system.
