Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, whether his Department has taken steps to ensure that live animal checks are carried out at the point of destination in the EU.

Since 1^st January 2021, the United Kingdom has put in place strict biosecurity controls on the highest risk imports of animals, animal products, plants and plant products from the EU. These controls on the highest risk goods remain in place including currently checking live animals at destination.

Rules on exports of live animals from Great Britain to the EU are determined by the EU, and checks are undertaken at an EU Border Control Post rather than at destination.
