Question to the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport:

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, what progress the Government has made on increasing funding for greyhound welfare from gambling operators since publication of the Government response to the Second Report of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee, Session 2015-16, on Greyhound welfare, HC 478.

The betting and greyhound industries should work together and that contributions from betting should reflect the total income generated by the sport.

While there have been a number of discussions between the two industries on this issue since the publication of the Committee’s report, I was disappointed to hear that no further commitments to increase funding have yet been made.

I will be raising this matter again with the betting industry and making my views clear.
