Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, who is accountable if structural faults are identified in a newly built home following the new build's sign off.
For buildings constructed in recent years, developers generally have a contractual responsibility for structural faults through warranty agreements. Most new build properties are sold with 10-year warranties, which are funded through developer premiums and usually require developers to directly fix any issues identified within 2 years of occupancy. Local authorities and the Building Safety Regulator can also take enforcement action against those who have contravened the building regulations.
