NHS Digital publishes data on the nationality of staff working in the National Health Service in England. Nationality is self-reported within the NHS human resources and payroll system, the electronic staff record.

As of 31 March 2017, latest data available, there are now 137,384 (headcount) foreign nationals, or 11.6% employed in the National Health Service trusts and clinical commissioning groups. 80,822 of NHS staff records do not contain useful data with people choosing not to specify their nationality or not asked to.
