Question to the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero:
To ask the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, what assessment has she made of the potential impact of moving green levies from households bills into general taxation on household energy bills in Wales.
The Department has not made such an assessment. The Government is planning for a range of scenarios this winter and will continue to look at what more we can do to tackle unaffordable bills and make life easier for households.
The Government removed VAT from domestic electricity bills for 6 months from 1 October, providing breathing space to households facing cost-of-living pressures this winter. This is expected to lower Ofgem’s October price cap for the typical household by £45 more that it would have been otherwise.
This comes on top of the action taken at last year’s Budget to take £150 of costs off energy bills, with those decisions now factored into bills for the next 3 years.
