Israeli settlements in the West Bank are illegal and undermine prospects for a two-state solution. We have regularly raised our concerns with the Government of Israel and called for an end to its expansion of settlements and to ensure accountability for settler violence and settler terrorism. As the Foreign Secretary set out in his statement of 8 September, the official view of the British Government is that the Israeli occupation is unlawful, because of entrenchment of its control, its intention to extend permanent sovereignty and its expansionist agenda via illegal settlements.
