To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, what assessment she has made of trends in the number of personal data breaches in each of the last five years.

DCMS is now monitoring personal data breach trends through departmental reporting, cross-government assurance activity and engagement with the ICO. Government has introduced the Model Action Plan for significant personal data breaches to strengthen oversight, enable consistent reporting, lessons learned and risk mitigation. Information on breach volumes, causes and trends will inform the first annual Data Protection and Information Security Assurance Statement, providing a transparent assessment of capability, risks and improvement priorities.
