Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, what assessment his Department has made of the continued detention of Osman Kavala by the Republic of Türkiye.

On 2 September, the UK delivered a statement at the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers calling for the immediate release of Osman Kavala in line with the latest judgment made by the European Court of Human Rights on 25 August 2026. We will continue to raise Mr Kavala's case at the highest levels and encourage Turkey to uphold the rule of law and its obligations as a member of the Council of Europe.
