Question to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy:

To ask the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, what steps his Department is taking to support Trading Standards.

In 2018-2019 the Department is providing over £14 million to National Trading Standards and Trading Standards Scotland to coordinate local authority trading standards services work on fair trading. Following the Modernising Consumer Markets Green Paper in 2018, the Government has been considering options to strengthen consumer protection. These will build on the Office for Product Safety and Standard’s work with trading standards to increase their capacity to prevent and remove unsafe goods in UK markets.
