Question to the Ministry of Justice:

To ask the Secretary of State for Justice, whether his Department plans to bring forward legislative proposals to put the Victims Code into law.

I refer the Honourable Member to my answer given to PQ 1092 and 1105 on 4^th July 2017. As I said then, on 18 January the previous government announced that it would set out a strategy for victims of crime within 12 months, and that it would take the appropriate action to give effect to the strategy.

We have also committed to enshrine victims’ entitlements in law, making clear what level of service they should expect from the police, courts and criminal justice system. Now the election has passed further consideration can be given to this work. We will announce further details in due course.
