The Chancellor has regular discussions with the Prime Minister and other Cabinet colleagues on a range of issues including government investment in infrastructure.

At the Autumn Statement the Chancellor introduced the National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF) which will provide an additional £23bn of investment between 2017/18 and 2020/21. The NPIF will be targeted at infrastructure, housing, and research and development. The government is getting on with delivering this additional investment. For instance on Tuesday 4th July, the Secretary of State for the Department for Communities and Local Government launched the £2.3bn Housing Infrastructure Fund.

The NPIF comes on top of previous commitments already set out, including the biggest investment in transport infrastructure in generations.
