A count of finished admission episodes (FAEs) with a primary diagnosis of hip fracture and where there was an external cause of fall, for patients aged 65 and over for the years 2009-10 to 2017-18, is shown in the following table.

This is a count of admissions, not patients, as the same patient may have been admitted on more than one occasion within the time period:

Year

2009-10

36,006

2010-11

35,734

2011-12

2012-13

2013-14

2015-16
