Question
To ask the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, pursuant to the answer of 22 July 2026, to Question 18835, on National Gallery: Flags, and with reference to the paragraph 8.1 of the Framework Agreement between the National Gallery and DCMS, if she will ask the National Gallery to provide a response to the sponsoring Minister of whether it obtained planning permission from Westminster City Council before it flew the Progress Flag from its buildings, and if the sponsoring Minister will then deposit or relay the reply from the National Gallery on the Parliamentary record.
While DCMS Ministers are accountable to Parliament for matters concerning the National Gallery, the Gallery remains operationally independent from the Government, with all decisions about building management and flag flying taken by its trustees. As set out in response to Question 18835. I would therefore continue to refer the Member to the National Gallery.
