Question to the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology:
To ask the Secretary of State for Science, Innovation and Technology, with reference to her Department's joint press release entitled UK life sciences attracts £3bn investment, creating jobs and faster patient treatments, published on 9 July 2026, what estimate she has made of the number of jobs directly created by the £3 billion investment.
The Department does not hold estimates for the number of jobs impact for all of the investments that make up the £3bn investment figure. However, we have assessed jobs created by the Life Sciences Innovative Manufacturing Fund. £87 million has been committed so far to nine projects, unlocking £657 million of private investment, creating 272 jobs and safeguarding a further 1,030. Moderna’s £1bn investment in its new Innovation Centre in Harwell, as part of a 10-year strategic partnership with government to discover new therapies and boost pandemic resilience, will support around 150 highly-skilled jobs.
