Question to the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government:
To ask the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, when the application process for voter ID cards is planned to begin.
The Government is committed to ensuring our democracy is secure, fair, modern and transparent.
The Elections Act 2022 has introduced a new requirement for voters to show photographic identification before voting in person in a polling station. Further details on implementation and commencement will be published in due course. The Government is committed to providing funding to councils, in line with the ‘new burden’ principles.
