We commend our hard working governors who do a vital job in protecting the public every day. The experience of governors is vital to the effective running of prisons and this is gained through a variety of career paths. Unfortunately the information that you requested could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. However, I can provide some information on the length of service of governors in place as of 30 June 2018.

1 Only includes substantive Governing Governors working in the HM Prison Service. Therefore, these figures do not include deputy Governors or those covering Governing Governor roles.

2 Length of service is calculated from the date they first became a governor.
