Question to the Department for Work and Pensions:

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, what assessment she has made of the potential merits of collecting medical evidence from every applicant at the application stage of (a) personal independence payments and (b) employment support allowance.

The Government is exploring a number of options to improve the provision of medical evidence for Personal Independence Payments and Employment and Support Allowance as set out in its response to recommendation 5 of the Work & Pensions Select Committee.
