Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, how many patients died due to a hospital acquired infection in primary care trusts in (a) 2017, (b) 2016, (c) 2015, (d) 2014 and (e) 2013.

Data on the number of patients who died due to a hospital acquired infection are not available in the format requested.

Estimated 30-day all-cause deaths among patients following bacteraemia (bloodstream infection) due to meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, meticillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteraemia and Clostridium difficile infection for the years 2013–17 are available to view here:
