Question to the HM Treasury:
To ask Mr Chancellor of the Exchequer, what assessment he has made of the effect of the withdrawal of credit card payment facilities on changes to the level of personal tax collected by HMRC.
HMRC considered the impacts of withdrawing personal credit cards as a method of payment and concluded there would be no significant impact on the level of personal tax collected. Withdrawing this payment method has saved public money and prevented people paying by other payment methods cross-subsidising those who pay by personal credit card.
