Question to the Department of Health and Social Care:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health, what the timetable is for the review of the Mental Health Act 1983.

My Rt. hon. Friend the Prime Minister announced an independent review of mental health legislation and practice to tackle the issue of mental health detention on 4 October 2017.

Following consultation with stakeholders, the Chair of the independent review, Professor Sir Simon Wessely, will produce an interim report identifying priorities for the review’s work in early 2018, and develop a final report containing detailed recommendations on its priorities, by autumn 2018.
