The Government is committed to preventing and tackling homelessness, and no one should ever have to spend a night on the streets.

I confirmed in January 2017 that the Government would fund the Homelessness Reduction Act in line with the longstanding 'new burdens' arrangement and provide £61 million to local authorities to meet the new burdens cost of the Act.

The distribution formula is being finalised following consultation with local authorities from across the country, and we plan to announce allocations in the autumn and make the first payments in winter 2017/2018.
