In February 2024, Ofsted carried out an inspection of the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (CAFCASS). The report graded CAFCASS as outstanding in all areas. We do not feel this glowing report reflects CAFCASS practice, and want a Government review.

In 2023, it was stated in the 'Family Court Reform and CAFCASS' debate by one MP that CAFCASS "is falling far short of the standards required." An expert panel convened by the Ministry of Justice found that there are deep-seated and systematic issues that affected how risk to both children and adults is identified and managed in private law children cases. Children on the Family Justice Young People’s Board have also spoken of negative experiences of family court proceedings.
We believe there are known issues, and that many children have been left at risk, or prevented from having a relationship with safe parents, following CAFCASS recommendations. We think this report is whitewashing by Ofsted of Cafcass failings, which puts children at risk.
