We want the Government to review the scoring guidance for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check. We think it needs to be made clearer to those administering the check what constitutes an acceptable alternative phoneme for children to use when reading pseudo words.

We think there are inconsistencies in marking the check which could mean the difference between a child passing or not. i.e. can they use a long vowel sound for a single vowel letters in a non-word?
