I thank my hon. Friend for her question, and for standing up for her constituents and the importance of Poundland to her local high streets and those across the country. It is absolutely legitimate for the Government to be asking the business to do everything it can to protect employees and suppliers, which is why we are seeking clarity on its plans and a clear understanding of the situation. Officials have met Gordon Brothers this week, as the Secretary of State will do, and I will meet Poundland tomorrow. As my hon. Friend rightly mentions, it has a responsibility to its employees—12,000 of them, and thousands more among its suppliers. We will keep putting pressure on the company. Ownership brings responsibilities as well as rights.

Today the Tory party has shamefully said that it does not give two hoots about 12,000 workers, including dozens in my constituency. What is going on here is that the management of Poundland are very concerned that the owners of Poundland are looking to abuse the insolvency process to maximise their financial returns, not giving two hoots about 12,000 workers. Will the Minister confirm that the Government will do everything they can to ensure that Gordon Brothers will not act as a rogue owner by abusing the insolvency process?
