Tobacco and Vapes Bill
Asked by: Tracy Gilbert (Labour - Edinburgh North and Leith) Thursday 25th July 2024 Question to the Department of Health and Social Care: To ask the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, what discussions he has had with the Scottish Government on the Tobacco and Vapes Bill. Answered by Andrew Gwynne - Parliamentary Under-Secretary (Department of Health and Social Care) My Rt hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has been discussing the new United Kingdom-wide Tobacco and Vapes Bill with Neil Gray, the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care for Scotland, and will send formal correspondence prior to its introduction. As the bill covers the whole of the UK, the Department will stay in close contact with all our devolved government counterparts, throughout the passage of the bill. Department officials have engaged frequently with officials from Public Health Scotland, and the rest of the devolved governments, to help shape and develop proposals for new legislation. Each of the devolved governments, including the Scottish Government, are in support of a new and strengthened bill, and the benefits it will provide to the health of our nations. Once the bill has been introduced to the UK Parliament, the devolved governments will seek consent motions from their respective legislatures, including the Scottish Parliament. |

S6W-31528
Asked by: Wishart, Beatrice (Scottish Liberal Democrats - Shetland Islands) Thursday 5th December 2024 Question To ask the Scottish Government, further to the answer to question S6W-31099 by Neil Gray on 15 November 2024, how much of its £30 million investment in planned care was allocated to NHS Grampian to support additional orthopaedic activity at Woodend Hospital. Answered by Gray, Neil - Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care As set out in my response to S6W-31527 on 2 December 2024, approximately £1.36 million was initially allocated to NHS Grampian to support 980 additional orthopaedic joint procedures at Woodend Hospital over a 9 month period. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, NHS Grampian were unable to commence activity in the timeline originally anticipated and currently expect to deliver 95 additional joints at Woodend by end of March 2025. The remainder of the funding from the £1.36 million will be redirected to other priority areas, including orthopaedic capacity at the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital. We are working with Health Boards, including NHS Grampian, to develop detailed annual delivery plans for 2025/26 to support waiting list reductions and improve productivity, and orthopaedics will be a key priority area. All answers to written Parliamentary Questions are available on the Parliament’s website, the search facility for which can be found at https://www.parliament.scot/chamber-and-committees/written-questions-and-answers |

S6W-30816
Asked by: Briggs, Miles (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party - Lothian) Thursday 7th November 2024 Question To ask the Scottish Government, further to the answer to question S6W-30256 by Neil Gray on 8 October 2024, how many blood cancer clinical studies have been supported by the NHS Research Scotland (NRS) Cancer Network in each financial year since 2018-2019. Answered by Gray, Neil - Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care Data provided by the NHS Research Scotland Cancer Research Network on the number of blood cancer clinical studies that have been supported by the Network in each financial year since 2018-19 are shown in the following table, noting that individual studies can take a number of years to complete. The figures are inclusive of studies open to recruitment and in participant follow up in any given year, paediatric and adult studies, and public, charity, and industry sector funded studies.
The data source used to compile the information above provides a more detailed study record compared with the source used to answer question S6W-30256. This accounts for the difference in the figure for the number of studies supported in 2023-24 given in the table above and in the answer to question S6W-30256. |

S6W-30940
Asked by: Greene, Jamie (Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party - West Scotland) Thursday 7th November 2024 Question To ask the Scottish Government, further to the answer to question S6W-30808 by Neil Gray on 29 October 2024, and in light of this information having previously been held, as indicated in the answer to question S4W-30590 by Shona Robison on 23 March 2016, (a) when and (b) for what reason it stopped collecting this information, and whether it has any plans to resume the collection of this information. Answered by Gray, Neil - Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care The answers to questions S4W-30590 on 23 March 2016 and S5W-24194 on 30 July 2019 provided information on formal practice list closures which the Scottish Government gathered from NHS boards for the purpose of answering those parliamentary questions. NHS boards are responsible for the accuracy of this data and the Scottish Government decided that the best answer to S6W-30808 was to refer Mr Green directly to the source of the data. The Scottish Government does not routinely gather information on list closures, and as the responsibility for the accuracy of this management information lies with NHS boards, the Scottish Government would not look to publish it. All answers to written Parliamentary Questions are available on the Parliament's website, the search facility for which can be found at https://www.parliament.scot/chamber-and-committees/written-questions-and-answers. |

Answered by Gray, Neil - Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care As noted in the answer to the question S6W-28172, the specialist psychological workforce for children and young people with cancer is currently being reviewed by the Managed Service Network for Children and Young People with Cancer (MSN CYPC) as part of a wider workforce review. The Scottish Government is in conversation with the MSN CYPC as their review of workforce needs continues.
