Commons ChamberOrder. There must be some relief from the toil of being a Whip. I call Mr Mike Weir.
The Prime Minister talks grandly about self-determination, so why is she so determined not to allow the Scottish people to exercise that very right when the details of the deal are known but before we are taken out of the EU?

Commons ChamberOn a point of order, Mr Speaker. I beg to move that the Question be now put.
There is not a Question before us to be put, because new clause 6 has been withdrawn, and therefore the correct procedure now is for me to move on to Government amendment 1.
Clause 1
Ratification of the Istanbul Convention on violence against women
Amendment proposed: 1, page 1, line 1, leave out clause 1.—(Sarah Newton.)
This amendment leaves out clause 1.
Question put, That the amendment be made.

Commons ChamberThis information is provided by Parallel Parliament and does not comprise part of the offical record
I am grateful to the hon. Lady for her point of order, but I fear that she invests me with powers I do not possess. Every Member is responsible for the veracity or otherwise of what he or she says. If any Member feels that he or she has made an incorrect statement in the House, it is open to that Member to correct it, and it should, indeed, be corrected. Where there are matters of debate and argument, I do not think that it is appropriate for me to intrude.
Suffice it to say that I think the hon. Lady has found her salvation and, no doubt, done what she thinks is right by the fine employees of the Library by raising this point of order, which is now on the record and which, I trust, will be seen by the very Library staff whom, if I may say so without excessive pun, she has just championed.
I beg to move, That the House sit in private.
Question put forthwith (Standing Order No. 163), and negatived.

Commons ChamberOne group that suffers most from fuel poverty is those on prepayment meters. Hon. Members have heard evidence from witnesses in the Energy Bill Committee that the Government’s proposals will make reductions to the lowest tariff only within the type of tariff people are already on. How will that help those on prepayment meters?

Commons ChamberI appeal to the Secretary of State to look at the House so that we can all hear her answers.
We welcome the commitment to HS2 and note what the Secretary of State said about the impact on Scotland, but will she now widen the remit of HS2 to allow immediate planning for extension further north and link-up with development in Scotland, rather than waiting the several years that it will take the hybrid Bills to go through this place?

Commons ChamberYesterday the Secretary of State for DECC sent a letter to all MPs promoting the Government’s policy of check, switch and insulate, but how does the Secretary of State suggest that off-grid customers can check or switch when in many areas there is a virtual monopoly on home fuel oil? [Interruption.]
Order. Far too many private conversations are taking place in the Chamber. We need to hear the Secretary of State.
