Violet-Grace’s Law - Life sentences for Death by Dangerous Driving - Final Signatures: 167,506

The men who killed our daughter drove a stolen a car at 83 mph in a 30 mph zone. They killed our 4-year-old daughter Violet-Grace and severely injured her nan, who has life-changing injuries. They will serve less time in prison than Violet was alive. I don’t want other families to suffer like this.

To introduce a law that recognises Parental Alienation as a criminal offence. - Final Signatures: 15,083

Parental alienation can have severe effects on children —low self-esteem and self-hatred, lack of trust, depression, substance abuse and other forms of addiction - as children lose the capacity to give and accept love from a parent.

The Government responsed to this petition on 9th May 2019 (View Full Response)
We do not believe that it is necessary to introduce a criminal offence against parents who alienate their child against the other parent as the court can take effective action against such behaviour.

All jurors in rape trials to complete compulsory training about rape myths - Final Signatures: 16,445

Research shows that jurors accept commonly held rape myths resulting in many incorrect not guilty verdicts. Rapists are walking free from court, although evidence is robust. This ruins lives. Rape conviction in the UK is very low. Compared to other crimes conviction is 21% lower.

The Government responsed to this petition on 12th April 2018 (View Full Response)
The Ministry of Justice takes rape offences very seriously. The Senior Judiciary are working to consider the most effective way to provide sufficient information to jurors sitting on a rape trial.

Mandatory minimum sentence for shaken baby deaths no guilty plea reduction. - Final Signatures: 10,496

We are calling for a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years when an offender kills a child through shaking the infant. This should also mean that they are not eligible for the reduction in sentence when pleading guilty to get a lower jail term.

The Government responsed to this petition on 14th February 2019 (View Full Response)
The Government recognise the dreadful impact of murder and manslaughter on the families of victims. Mandatory life sentences for murder and a maximum penalty of life for manslaughter are available.

anybody caught carrying a knife/gun serve a mandatory life with 10 year minimum - Final Signatures: 12,741

Kids are killing kids. There needs to be a mandatory life sentence with a harsh minimum term of at least 10 years for anyone carrying a knife or gun. The guidelines that are in place now are obviously not a deterrent. A life sentence with 10 years minimum for all ages would be a big deterrent.

The Government responsed to this petition on 19th November 2018 (View Full Response)
The Government is determined to tackle the possession of weapons. Under the current law, anyone who continues to carry a knife or gun can expect to face a custodial sentence.

Fair Play For Women is calling for MPs to ensure the relevant prison rules are urgently reviewed, in full consultation with women's organisations. Prison guidance PSI-17/2016 allows male prisoners who identity as female to be moved to a female prison at the discretion of a Transgender Case Board.

The safety of all prisoners is the Government’s paramount concern. A revised policy framework is in development and we are consulting with stakeholders to understand relevant concerns.

Conviction of a knife or offensive weapon offence – threatening or possession - is now more likely to result in some form of custodial sentence, and for longer than at any point in the last ten years.

Review child contact cases involving domestic abuse victims and increase support - Final Signatures: 301

I want the handling of child contact cases involving victims of domestic abuse to be reviewed, and victims given more support. The child's welfare is meant to be the main consideration in decisions about contact, but in some cases involving victims of domestic abuse we believe this doesn't happen.
