Solid Fuels: Air Pollution
Asked by: Martin Vickers (Conservative - Brigg and Immingham) Friday 24th May 2024 Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, pursuant to the Answer of 23 April 2024 to Question 21619, what his planned timetable is for (a) completing the Emission Factors for Domestic Solid Fuels Work Package 1 project and (b) assessing the implications for his policies of the outcomes from that project; and whether he plans to publish that assessment. Answered by Robbie Moore The Emission Factors for Domestic Solid Fuels Project – Work Package 1 Report was published on 5 January, there are two remaining work packages which are expected to be completed to feed into the annual publication of the National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory in February 2025.
We continue to undertake regular monitoring of emission sources of air pollutants to inform future policy. There will be an assessment of the implications for policies following the completion of the whole Emissions Factors for Domestic Solid Fuels Project. We would not expect this assessment to be published. |
Air Pollution: Pollution Control
Asked by: Helen Morgan (Liberal Democrat - North Shropshire) Friday 24th May 2024 Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, with reference to the press release of 4 August 2023 entitled £6 million to improve air quality in local communities, what proportion of that funding will be spent in each Parliamentary constituency; and for what purpose. Answered by Robbie Moore The Minister used his discretion not to fund the Local Air Quality Grant Scheme for the 2023-2024 financial year. He has asked Defra officials to consider the future of the scheme and how it might be redesigned to better deliver positive outcomes for local air quality and public health and therefore enhanced value for money for taxpayers. |
Air Quality Grant Scheme
Asked by: Lord Bishop of St Albans (Bishops - Bishops) Friday 24th May 2024 Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs: To ask His Majesty's Government what assessment they have made of the report by the University of Copenhagen Lifetime exposure to air pollution and academic achievement: A nationwide cohort study in Denmark, published in March, particularly the finding that high levels of air pollution may negatively impact children’s cognitive development; and whether in light of this they will consider reinstating funding for the Air Quality Grant Scheme. Answered by Lord Douglas-Miller The Government keeps new studies on health impacts of air pollution under review and is advised by the Committee on Medical Effects of Air Pollutants (COMEAP).
The Minister used his discretion not to fund the Local Air Quality Grant Scheme for the 2023-2024 financial year.
