The UK is deeply concerned by reports that Reuters journalists Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo have been denied sleep during interrogation and access to medical attention. The former Foreign Secretary raised his concerns about their continued detention when he met State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi during his visit to Burma in February. The Minister for Asia and the Pacific publicly expressed his disappointment on 8 July about the decision to proceed to a trial, and raised his concerns over the case in his meeting on 11 July with Burmese Ambassador U Kyaw Zwar Minn. Our Embassy officials have regularly attended the pre-trial hearings and will continue to attend court sessions during the trial.
