Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:
To ask Her Majesty's Government, following reports of the arrest of a 15 year old girl outside the British consulate in Hong Kong, what steps they have taken to ensure that she was not subjected to ill-treatment at the hands of the Hong Kong Police Force.
The UK has repeatedly made clear that we support the right to peaceful and lawful protest. As in all overseas missions, we maintain regular contact with the police about the security of our buildings and staff. As I stated on 15 January, any arrests and judicial processes should be conducted in a fair and transparent manner. We have made clear that we expect the Hong Kong authorities abide by international humanitarian laws and practices. ?
