Question to the Department for Education:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the statement by the Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills on 19 April (HC Deb, col 713), how they calculated the figure of £200 million per annum, by 2020–21, as the extra cost of enabling parents of apprentices aged under 20 to continue to be eligible for child benefit.

As stated in my response to the Noble Lord on 25th April, I agreed to write to him in response to this question.

The estimate was based on Child Benefit rates and projected numbers of Apprenticeships. It was not certified by the OBR.
