Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask Her Majesty's Government how many British journalists and camera crews covering the recent protests in the United States have been affected by the United States security forces’ use of force; and (1) whether, (2) when, and (3) to whom in the United States authorities, they have made it clear that the use of force, including tear gas, rubber bullets and pepper spray, against all journalists is an unacceptable violation of press freedom.

We are aware of a small number of British journalists and camera crews being affected by the US police response to the unrest. Our Embassy in Washington has raised the issue with the US Administration.

Journalists all around the world must be free to do their job and to hold authorities to account without fear of arrest or violence.
