Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask Her Majesty’s Government, further to the Written Answer by Baroness Anelay of St Johns on 6 January (HL4319), what plans they have made to gather and preserve evidence of crimes committed by Daesh in Iraq.

This question was answered on 8th February 2017

While investigative and prosecutorial work to bring Daesh to justice is already underway across the world, we are working with international partners to identify ways to advance this work, including through action at the UN. In Iraq, the UK translated the International Protocol on the Documentation and Investigation of Sexual Violence in Conflict into Kurdish and Arabic and has followed up with projects supporting Iraqi organisations to document and present evidence of gender based violence to international standards. Our aim is to work with the consent of the Iraqi Government and develop local capacity to take this forward.
