Question to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office:

To ask Her Majesty's Government what assessment they have made about whether the discussions between the President of Kenya and the Secretary of State for the United States have made progress towards ending the conflict in Tigray.

This question was answered on 6th December 2021

We support efforts by US Secretary of State Blinken to resolve the conflict in Ethiopia on his visit to Kenya on 17 November and his call for an unconditional ceasefire in Ethiopia. Alongside the US, we are fully supportive of the African Union (AU)'s mediation efforts. The Minister for Africa spoke with AU Special Envoy Obasanjo on 4 November, and with AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security Bankole on 8 November. We continue to closely engage US counterparts on how best to end the conflict in Ethiopia in Washington DC, Addis Ababa and in capital to capital discussions, including with the US envoy for the Horn of Africa, Jeffrey Feltman.
