Question to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs:

To ask His Majesty's Government what percentage of chicken procured for Government contracts was produced in the UK in the last year for which figures are available.

Public bodies are not required to report on the origin of the food they procure and information on the origin and sustainability of food in government supply chains is limited. Defra is therefore collecting new data to understand the extent to which government and other public sector settings are serving food from local and sustainable sources and what further action is needed. The department expects this work to be completed by Summer 2027.
