Question to the Ministry of Defence:

To ask His Majesty's Government, in light of the decision by Royal British Legion to change the name of the National Memorial Arboretum to the National Remembrance Gardens, which, if any, government departments or other public bodies were consulted about the change; what the nature was of any such consultations; and whether there was any cost to the taxpayer associated with the name change.

The Royal British Legion (RBL) became the ‘National Memorial Arboretum parent charity in 2003 and announced the change of name in line with organisational management of the NMA site and wider remembrance sites under its purview. The Ministry of Defence was informed of this decision by letter from the RBL in February 2026.

I can confirm that there were no costs to the taxpayer associated with this renaming.
