The health and safety of prisoners and staff is our first priority. Since 2022, extensive efforts have been made to assess occurrence of radon in the prison estate, and to implement any mitigation measures identified as necessary following investigations conducted under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017.

The Health & Safety Executive announced its intention to initiate Crown Censure proceedings in May this year. As those proceedings have yet to conclude, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this time.
